So I can hit my mark at 20 25 and 30 yrds now!!! Out past that I have found that any little change makes a huge difference in the point of impact... That said keep in mind to keep your bow arm straight, your head up and don't lean your head to align peep and pin, also remember not to pull your release (if used) to tight into your cheek it will affect your arrows flight.

So my question?

I believe I am getting a case of target panic?! Not that I am in a hurry to shoot just that I have the need to release to see the shot off and watch it hit its mark... Is there something I can do to overcome this? Is it something that will effect my ability to shoot at a competition or while hunting?

I am also wondering what techniques I may be over looking while practicing out past the 30 yard marker?! I can hit my 24x24 target all day at 40 yards but my groupings are not tight... I know I need more practice at this and farther distances but is it just that I need practice or is there something I need to do to compensate for the arrow being in the air that long?

Hey there Jeff. I am no expert but I would suggest, like I do during my golfing lessions, that you will have plenty of time to see your target being hit. So in short, just continue with your known techniques and in no time at all you will be able to follow your flight to your target. Remeber, a slight movement at release can mean all the difference at the target.
I hope this will help but I am sure you have cured your target panic by now,

I am now shooting out to 50 and 60 yards and at a 18" x 18" target and I still can hit my target and groupings are tighter but not as tight as I would like. 30 yards is as about all the farther I can possibly shoot here in KY but I will move back to Idaho once the economy picks up and I can get a stable job back home, and I know I could run into the need to take a shot at 50 yards on a elk!

Jeff,
One of the tried and true methods to help with target panic is called "Blind Butt" shooting. With this method you simply get 3-4 yds from your target, Close your eyes at full draw and FEEL THE SHOT GO OFF. Do not peek, just shoot and shoot and shoot until the feeling of a surprise shot is 2nd nature. It has cured me of target panic in the past and I know many more that have used it.

I have tried this method and had success too! What kind of grouping should I have at 40-50 yards, I mean should I be grouping within a 10" circle or a 4" circle??? Obviously a 4" circle would be better but what is an average???

For me I am a bowhunter more than a tournament shooter. So at 40-50 yds if my groups are covering the size of a dinner plate. I know that is lungs and I am good. If I was tournament shooting then 8-10" would keep me in the 10 ring. The Dinner plate is fine with me, to each their own. If you can be consistant in that dinner plate size I would think you are doing great.

So is that going to be good enough for a whitetail deer???

I mean 8" is a good bit to be off on a deer that jumps the string so well?! Especially at 40-50 yards! I am not doubting you Scott I have never shot at an animal at that distance and it is a little out of my comfort zone, maybe an elk, moose, caribou, or a big ole mule buck.
