| Idaho Fish & Game Bonus Points Cost Clarified - Thursday, June 24, 2010 Bonus Point Cost Clarified Idaho Fish and Game has proposed a bonus point system for its controlled hunt drawings, but the cost may be unclear. The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will consider the proposed system at its July meeting in Kellogg. If adopted it would increase the cost of applying for a controlled hunt for hunters who participate in the program. Hunters have several options. They can decline to participate by opting out when they apply for a controlled hunt. Or they can buy a bonus point when they apply for a hunt. Right now it costs a resident hunter $6.25, or $14.75 for nonresidents, to apply for controlled hunts for deer, elk, pronghorn or black bear, turkey, moose, bighorn sheep or mountain goat. With a bonus point it would cost $6.25 plus the application fee for a total of $12.50 for residents, or $21 for nonresidents. Hunters who are not interested in a controlled hunt would still have to pay the $6.25 or $14.75 application fee if they want to buy a bonus point that year. The bonus point system, if adopted, would increase the number of chances a hunter would have in a controlled hunt drawing. The chances would increase progressively as the hunter accumulates points over the years. |
| Bonus Point System in Idaho - Thursday, June 24, 2010 Guys, Please take a look at the Bonus Point system that is being proposed by the Idaho F&G. It is a very harmful system that will NOT benefit sportsmen in any way, and is just a money-grab at best. With 45,411 1st choice applicants for elk alone last year, F&G is proposing to allow everyone to purchase a bonus point for EVERY species every year...meaning all 45,000+ elk applicants would be able to buy a point for sheep, one for goat, one for moose, etc. With only 46 Mountain Goat tags in the state, it should be fairly obvious what this will do to draw odds. I have attached a very rough draft for a Bonus Point Proposal which we will be submitting to F&G next week. Please either read it at Elk101.com and make comments/suggestions there, or read what is attached in this e-mail and respond via e-mail with any suggestions. If a bonus point system is going to be implemented against the wish of the majority of sportsmen, let's at least have a voice in how it should operate. Please forward this to anyone you know who might be interested! Many thanks, |
